Abyssfall: Darkness Awaits... Devlog 1

Over the past 6 days (Feb 19–25), I developed an exploration-based FPS for the Dungeon Devs Game Jam (my first game jam ever!). You play as a legendary archer, wielding a magical bow to restore peace to a kingdom under threat from the fallen King’s forces and a looming dragon. Think of it as a bite-sized Skyrim with a focus on exploration and storyline.

  • Core Systems: Built an FPS controller with a state machine, a resource-based inventory, and a weapon management system.
  • Gameplay: Added item spawning, pickup/hold mechanics, and enemy AI with state machines for patrol, chase, and attack behaviors.
  • Polish: Implemented loading screens and cutscenes to tie the experience together.
  • World Building: Made a prototype world with all the locations to be used in cutscenes and, then made a detailed version of it to be used in the game. Assets are CC0 and some are made using CSG nodes with CC0 PBR textures

As a self-taught game developer based in Pune, I wanted to challenge myself in my first jam. This project pushed me to learn new skills, especially with state machines and resource-based systems. If things go well, I plan to expand this into a full-fledged game in the future.

Try the game and let me know what you think! Feedback is always welcome.
